ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Sound Session

Sound Session is a professional chamber ensemble based in East Lansing, Michigan. Founded at the Michigan State University College of Music in 2021 under the direction of Professor Joseph Lulloff, the quartet quickly took off to become an exciting, captivating ensemble pushing the boundaries of chamber music playing. Members include Matt Fox of Albany, NY; Jacob Nance of Lubbock, TX; Jeffrey Allardyce of Grandville, MI; and Tyler Young of Aberdeen, NC. The quartet has garnered first prize finishes in the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) Quartet Competition, Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Chamber Wind Competition, Barbara Wagner Chamber Music Competition, and Drs. Ranney and Emel Songu Mize Graduate Division of the NOLA Chamber Fest while also participating in the 49th annual Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.

Sound Session’s members are active educators, with Fox and Nance representing two of the saxophone studio’s graduate assistants, Allardyce working as a music theory graduate assistant, and Young currently on faculty at Alma College. The ensemble hopes to raise the standard of quartet playing and create a unique atmosphere in the world of chamber music through commissioning new works, competing nationally, and memorizing their programs to strengthen the performer-listener bond with nuanced choreography and intentionality.
