5. Mongolian Oak

Quercus mongolica

Like the Chinese ash you visited earlier, this tree and two others planted near Demonstration Hall (93N338*04 and 93N339*02) were grown from acorns collected by Dr. Frank W. Telewski from Seoraksan, the highest mountain in the Taebaek mountain range in the Gangwon Province in eastern South Korea in November, 1993. They are great examples illustrating the highly diverse trees of the MSU Campus Arboretum—some of these species grow nowhere else in North America.
