Iris Ho Lin (she/her)

Major: Music Performance (2027)

How do you see art connected to nature?
Nature inspires artists to create pieces based on our feelings. In the music field, many pieces were composed of natural elements such as seasons and weather phenomena. Nature itself also contains all sorts of music. While I keep away from the roar of the crowds and enjoy the peace of nature, I am always surprised by the magical power of the natural symphony.

What inspired you to create your piece?
When playing the first movement of Hindemith sonata, I try to imagine myself standing in front of a cathedral in Europe and hearing the music from the organ. The whole movement conveys the theme of massiveness and significance.

How does engaging in your passion improve your wellbeing?
Every time I sit on the bench and deliberately place my hand on the strings, I am immersed in my creative world, which helps me rid myself of sorrow and helplessness. For me, playing music is not only something I am passionate about, but also a relaxation method that improves my wellbeing.
